August 18th – not a standout date on my calendar up until now, but this year I’m making it different. It’s the first day of my 365 day gratitude challenge.
I recently participated in a 90-day group study challenge, where some friends and I studied the same book, one chapter a day, for 90 days. The book was full of wisdom, and after 90 days of reading (attentive reading – no cheating!) I feel as though the wisdom sank in deeply and changed my view of the world. So now I’m going to take a deep dive into gratitude, because I want to make sure I’m seeing all my blessings all of the time.
To me, this is also a matter of wellness. I’m seeing more and more that our cells respond to our predominant thought patterns. Be worried and tense, and your cells will be too. Be calm, confident and grateful, and your cells will relax into wellness. For some of my patients, this shift has made the difference between persistent dis-ease, and progress.
So here we go:
Day 1:
I’m grateful to have seen a delightful movie with a friend last night…and for the sight and hearing to appreciate the luscious photography.
I’m grateful for the sound of my daughter’s voice on the phone.
I’m grateful to have been invited to contribute a chapter to an upcoming book for breast cancer survivors, which I’ll work on today.
During the reading challenge, I loved sharing my observations on the chapters with my friends via Facebook. I’ll be sharing my daily gratitude offerings both here and on my Facebook page, and I invite you to join in the conversation. (Want to join me in the challenge? Let me know and I’ll look for your gratitude offerings too!)
- What are you grateful for?
- What does the challenge of writing a gratitude offering every day make you see that you didn’t see before, or see differently now?
- What other ways can you think of to incorporate gratitude as a living, breathing part of your day?
I look forward to your comments below!
